The Dirty C-Word

Part of being an adult, apparently, is taking care of your body; not just in terms of showering and washing your face, but also doing fitness things.

Luckily, I started working out long before I became an adult. When I was 14, I got super into weight lifting; the gym has always been one of the only places where I feel strong and at peace with myself.

Now you’re probably imagining me as walking freelance fitspiration, but that’s completely and totally not the case. In theory, I should be an awesome weight-lifter with Michelle Obama arms; in reality, though, I am a chubby work-from-home writer who views fitness as a spectator sport.

Like life, the thing about exercise is that it only works if you’re consistent.

My current workout regimen of ‘going to a spinning class every time I remind myself how much my gym membership costs’ is meaningless, because it’s entirely unpredictable and unmeasurable.

I still love lifting weights, but at the rate I’m progressing, I’m not progressing at all. Because more important than mastering the Romanian Deadlift is doing it more than twice a month.

Consistency is most predictable way to guarantee success.

And it is 100% more important than talent or skill.

Being creative is important but it doesn’t get the work done

and yes, most deadlines are flexible, but not really
